WWII Veteran’s Grave Marker Located

UPDATE: We have located Mr. McCollum’s grave and the marker is being returned .

The Dalton Police Department is looking for the family of a late World War II veteran after a citizen found a marker that appears to be from his grave over the weekend. The marker that appears to be from the grave of Edward H. McCollum, a US Navy veteran with the rank of gunner’s mate 2nd class, was found in the woods near Underwood Street and turned in to police.

After the marker was turned in to police, the department contacted the cemetery sexton for the Whitfield Memorial Garden and West Hill Cemetery but no record could be found of Mr. McCollum’s grave. Police are hoping that a member of Mr. McCollum’s family will contact the department so the marker can be returned to its rightful place.

The marker reads:

DPD Investigating Entering Auto Cases

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify two men who illegally entered parked cars in the Stillwood Drive area. The incidents were recorded by the homeowners’ surveillance cameras. The items taken from the vehicles included wallets, cash, and debit cards.

 

The cases happened in early April, including several cases around 2:30 AM on April 7th. There were two suspects who entered the apparently unlocked vehicles. One suspect was a black male with a medium build who wore a University of Alabama hoodie sweatshirt. The second suspect was also a black male and appears larger, standing more than six feet tall who wore black Nike shoes. The suspects were on foot and investigators believe they may live or have recently stayed in the area of Stillwood Drive/Underwood Street. Pictures of the suspects are included below.

DPD Investigating Report Of Runaway Juvenile

The Dalton Police Department is looking for 17 year old Skylar Davis who has been reported as a runaway juvenile. Investigators believe that he may be in the Ringgold area.

 

Skylar Davis was last seen at on the evening of May 29th at the Country Inn at 903 West Bridge Road. Davis was in the custody of DFCS. His guardian told police that he went outside to get some fresh air and didn’t come back. He was last seen walking towards the Red Lobster on West Bridge Road.

 

Davis stands 5’11” tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. He has shoulder-length dark hair and a dark beard. He was last seen wearing white shorts and a black shirt with a gold watch and a diamond bracelet. Investigators believe that he may have gone to Ringgold to visit a friend. Anyone who knows Skylar Davis’ whereabouts is asked to please contact Detective Brian Shirley at 706-278-9085, extension 9-189.
