WWII Veteran’s Grave Marker Located
UPDATE: We have located Mr. McCollum’s grave and the marker is being returned .
The Dalton Police Department is looking for the family of a late World War II veteran after a citizen found a marker that appears to be from his grave over the weekend. The marker that appears to be from the grave of Edward H. McCollum, a US Navy veteran with the rank of gunner’s mate 2nd class, was found in the woods near Underwood Street and turned in to police.
After the marker was turned in to police, the department contacted the cemetery sexton for the Whitfield Memorial Garden and West Hill Cemetery but no record could be found of Mr. McCollum’s grave. Police are hoping that a member of Mr. McCollum’s family will contact the department so the marker can be returned to its rightful place.
The marker reads:
EDWARD H. McCOLLUM
