After Entering Auto, Debit Card Used Fraudulently

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a woman who stole a debit card from a car parked at a Dalton grocery store and then used it to make hundreds of dollars in fraudulent purchases in Ft. Oglethorpe. The suspect was recorded by store surveillance.

The incident happened on April 8th between 1:30 and 2:30 pm. The victim parked her car at the Kroger on West Walnut Avenue and went inside to shop, After leaving the store, the victim visited a few other stores before realizing that a debit card left in the console was missing along with $600 in cash and her daughter’s bookbag containing art supplies were both missing. The victim determined that the items were stolen while she was parked at the Kroger and that her card was used to make several hundred dollars’ worth of fraudulent purchases at the Walmart in Ft. Oglethorpe.

The victim’s dash cam recorded the suspect’s vehicle, a black BMW SUV with a dealership driveout tag, and a Dalton detective recovered surveillance images of the suspect driving the same vehicle and using the stolen card to make the fraudulent purchases in Ft. Oglethorpe. The suspect is a black female, who wore a pait of white plaid pajama pants and a gray or black quarter-zip fleece with a black hat. Pictures of the suspect and the vehicle she drove are included with this release.

Police Look For Rightful Owners Of Recovered Property

An investigation of a recent series of entering auto cases has resulted in identifying the juvenile suspects responsible and also the recovery of some of the stolen property. Dalton investigators have managed to return some of the recovered items, but there are still some items of property that still need to be returned to their rightful owners. The suspects in the case have not yet been arrested and because they are juveniles, no information about their identity is available.

The property was recovered on March 31st and was most likely stolen sometime in the two week period leading up to that date. It’s possible that the owners didn’t realize their property was stolen because all of the reported victims had left their cars unlocked. The recovered items are a pair of black Nike soccer cleats with orange swoosh logos, a black Mary Kay makeup bag, a set of keys with a fingernail clipper attached, and several CDs by the artist Don Edwards. Pictures of these items are included with this release.

If these items belong to you, please contact Detective Brian Shirley at 706-278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 189.

Cars Broken Into, Credit Cards Used Across The Street

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a man who used a stolen credit card to make more than $450 in purchases after two cars were broken into at a Dalton restaurant. The suspect attempted a second transaction, but the credit card was declined the second time. The suspect was recorded by the store’s surveillance system and pictures of the suspect are included with this release.

The incident happened on March 18th. After a group of friends finished eating at the Guadalajara restaurant at 817 S. Hamilton Street, they came outside to find that their cars had been broken into. One vehicle had a window broken out and the second had its key hole punched out using a tool of some kind. The items stolen included a pink Kate Spade wallet containing ID cards and bank cards as well as cash, a Dell laptop computer, and a Nike gym bag containing women’s workout clothes. When a Dalton Police Department officer arrived, the victims had already determined that one of their credit cards had already been used to make a $459 purchase at the Dollar General store located across the street.

Officers retrieved surveillance pictures of the suspect from Dollar General. He was described as a light skinned male, wearing a black Adidas jacket over a yellow shirt with jeans and a black Nike hat. He was talking on a white cell phone during the transaction, in which he purchased a $450 Visa gift card along with a birthday card and a bottle of water. The suspect then tried to buy a second $450 Visa gift card, but this time the credit card was declined. Store employees told police the suspect then left on foot, walking towards the northeast.

Anyone who recognizes this suspect is asked to please contact Detective Charles Williams at 706-278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 280.
