DPD Citizens Academy Open House Set For April

The Dalton Police Department will celebrate 20 years of hosting the Citizens Police Academy with an open house reunion for all graduates of the program on April 16th. The agency is currently conducting its 23rd Citizens Academy class.

Graduates of the program will be receiving invitations by mail to attend the open house which will run from about 4:30 until 7 pm on April 16th. The department is asking graduates who have had changes of address since taking part in the program to contact Alethea Brown with their new address by Friday, March 27th. The Citizens Police Academy is a 10 week course that gives participants an up-close and behind the scenes look at every aspect of the police department’s operations. ¬†Participants meet once a week for lectures given by various department personnel and also get a chance for some hands on firearms instruction and scenario training. ¬†Applications for each year’s class begin to be accepted in December and the program starts in February each year.
